GeorgeB’s Wine Sales Comments from Wednesday, March 4th, 2009
GeorgeB in the Afternoon” WNWS Broadcast

“It is ridiculous for liquor stores and the liquor lobbyists to maintain a market-unfriendly monopoly on wine sales in Tennessee.”

“Wine is a legal product, so is poultry and red meat. Should people have to buy their bread at a bread store? Milk at a state-regulated dairy store? Give me a break!”

“All citizens of legal age should be able to buy wine at their grocery store, along with their lamb chops, steak, and fish.”

“The industry arguments against wine in grocery stores are pathetic. They make you think their employees have a Ph.D. in ‘wineology,’ and I will admit, on this issue, they certainly have a degree in WHINEology. Liquor store part-time employees and hourly wage employees are no smarter and no more trainable than part-time employees and hourly wage employees of the grocery store. Furthermore, the Mom and Pop Liquor Stores don’t pay their part-time and hourly wage employees any more than other retail stores do – they just don’t want any competition.”

“The wholesale and retail liquor industry of Tennessee, and their very powerful lobbyists all have an unfair advantage over other businesses.”

“If the Mom and Pop Liquor Store does not have the smarts to survive in the fair-market system of American Competition, then they should go out of business! It is not government’s responsibility to make up for their ineffective marketing skills and lack of savvy business practices.”

“I’m just the People’s Spokesman”. You have proven this afternoon by your calls and your poll responses, that you agree with my position. That will only make the Liquor Monopoly Gang try to further ‘hoo-doo’ you. They act as if you the people are idiots with propaganda and arguments that are at best; weak, inaccurate, unverifiable, and ridiculously postulated.”
